On light, life and kidney stones
Tuesday, October 07, 2008 - 6:07 PM
Here in the Pacific Northwest, we haven't exactly had our fair share of light this year- as a matter of fact, it pretty much feels like we were cheated out of any Summer - shot right past it and into the Fall. On the other hand, Fall is our favorite season and we have many fond memories of woodland hikes in Montana, Parisian cafes and just sitting in our living room enjoying the afternoon sun playing off of our golden walls. The key, I think, is to remember to slow down every once in a while and literally just get quiet and enjoy one's surroundings. Sharon and I were in such a whirlwind getting ready for our shows that we found ourselves somewhat listless after they were up. With the focus for our creativity now reached, we just kind of sat down and became veggies for a bit. After all, it is important to regroup one's thoughts before starting down a new path. As fate would have it, we didn't have to wait long for a new focus. Seems as if I am the proud owner of a kidney stone large enough to be seen from space. The subsequent "discovery" and several weeks of dealing with my new found side kick (or is that kick in the side?) has certainly changed our focus for sure! It has also forced us to slow down, stay quiet and enjoy the golden light of Autumn. Walks, albeit short ones, at least allow us to see the daily changes in the landscape. While the stone hurts like hell - at least the beauty of the changing season adds some solace to an otherwise uncomfortable period. Dealing with the stone is certainly cramping our studio time at the moment and we can't wait to get out there and work. But as they always say...this too shall pass. - Terry
